Escondido, CA – Motorcyclist Hurt in Crash on I-15 near Rancho Pkwy

Escondido, CA (August 9, 2025) – A motorcyclist sustained injuries on August 8 following a collision on northbound Interstate 15 near the Via Rancho Parkway exit. The crash, involving a gray Kia Sportage and a black BMW motorcycle, occurred around 4:10 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Preliminary accounts suggest the driver of the Kia reported being cut off by a gray pickup truck, which led to the motorcycle striking the rear of the SUV. The motorcyclist was later seen sitting on the side of the HOV lane awaiting medical help. Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported the rider to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash temporarily blocked both the leftmost lane and the HOV lane, causing delays during the evening rush hour. Tow trucks were called to remove the motorcycle, while cleanup operations continued near the Del Lago Boulevard off-ramp.

The Freeway Service Patrol completed their assistance by 5:20 p.m., and traffic flow resumed shortly after. CHP is still investigating the incident, including the possible role of a third vehicle that may have contributed by cutting off traffic.
